Migrants and Human Rights When: Anytime September 2006 - June 2007
- Programs can be scheduled between 8AM and 4 PM Eastern Time, special arrangements can be made for international sites.
- Program must be held before November 23rd for participation in the United Nations Student Conference on Human Rights
Whom: Students in Grades 5 to 12

Topics: 1. Human rights of regular vs. irregular migrants2. Integration/assimilation 3. Gender dimension 4. Voluntary vs. involuntary migration 5. Labor issues
Purpose: (a) To involve students in the issue Migrants and Human Rights, and (b) to develop a statement from their class on what they as a class and school can do towards improving the rights of migrants. Schools participating by November 23rd will select students and one teacher to join several hundred young people from around the world in an all day videoconference with the United Nations on Friday, December 1st to celebrate and report on their work. One or two students from your class may be selected to be student leaders at the UN on December 1st. This program can be used in conjunction with local service learning requirements.
Resource Materials: Once registered for the program, you will receive a teacher manual, student workbook, Human Rights booklets, and online support.
