GEM Supports African Sisters Educational Collaborative

GEM Supports African Sisters Educational Collaborative

Chestnut Hill College is an active participant in the African Sisters Education Collaborative (ASEC) and sponsored a conference at CHC that brought 14 African sisters to the college to plan ways to provide higher education for hundreds of sisters in Africa to help them with their work of empowering young women.

On September 28th GEM provided a videoconferencing link for them at CHC to UNICEF in Kampala, Uganda, Africa.  The sisters were able to interact with UNICEF staff to learn what they were doing in the field to empower African women via education.  It was a “hands-on” experience of using videoconferencing technology to learn about programs and projects in Africa.  Two highlights of the program were (1) there were three visiting African sisters from Uganda and they were thrilled to talk with people from home and (2) interacting with Dr. Sheila Wamahiu and the Girls Education Movement.(GEM/Africa).
