Conference Description: Adelphi University and the United Nations will host the Second Annual Conference on “Teaching for Peace and Human Rights” with a special theme on Sports and Play on July 27, 2007 at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, NY and July 28, 2007 at Adelphi University, Garden City, NY. The conference will bring together teachers, public education administrators, U.N. ambassadors, and the non-governmental organization (NGO) community for a global dialogue about integrating peace and human rights education into the classroom. Teachers will write a Plan of Action to support UNESCO’s International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World campaign (2001–2010).
The purpose of the event is to provide a forum for teachers from around the world to collaborate on and bring international education issues to the forefront. Workshops will focus on helping teachers engage their students in global education issues while demonstrating how peace education can enhance curriculums.
