GEM was founded in 1981 as a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization to help schools meet the complex challenges of living in a global society. GEM currently operates as a public foundation. GEM is a Non-Governmental-Organization (NGO) in a close association with the United Nations Department of Public Information.

Emphasizing human rights and human responsibility, GEM uses videoconferencing and Internet based applications to educate a second generation to global awareness and responsibility in an interdependent world.

GEM is headquartered at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA (USA).

GEM Programs

GEM programs are highlighted by real world, real time experiences with young people working with young people to help solve problems in their world.  Programs emphasize awareness and then increased responsibility for their actions in an interdependent world.  Student empowerment through cross cultural interactions are central to GEM’s  inter-national programs.

Electronic field trips to the United Nations and other parts of the world are an important educational tool for 21st Century classrooms.  GEM currently has more than ten years experience in this area and has been using “new” communication technologies to support global understanding for almost 30 years.

Major conferences each year include:  UN Student Conference on Human Rights (12th year), UN Teachers Conference on Human Rights (4th year) and more than 100 videoconferences on global awareness to move young people from “words to deeds”.

GEM programs look at the big picture of their small world and cover global issues in a comprehensive way while getting young people to think globally and act locally.  With your support, GEM will continue to do this through the use of distant learning technologies.

We thank you for considering a financial donation to support GEM’s non profit work around the world.

Onward to a better world.

Sincerely,

Wayne R. Jacoby, President

GEM, Inc.
