Living in a Changed World

A videoconference series to look at the affect of September 11th on our lives.

Produced by Global Education Motivators (GEM)
Chestnut Hill College
Philadelphia, PA

Done in cooperation with: The United Nations Department of Public Information, the Carol Baur Foundation, Mexico, Partners in Distance Learning, USA, and LePage Educational Consultants, Canada

+++++

Purpose: To assess the impact of the events of September 11th on the lives of young people and their future through cross cultural presentations and discussions.

Emphasis is on human rights and democratic values in an international setting that use international consensus to reach conclusions.

Program will be made available in a teaching kit in September, 2002.

Future programs would be developed in the 2002-2003 school year to build on this initial programming.

Background: Selected schools will be bridged to the UN each month for videoconferences on the Aftermath of September 11th. Schools must sign on for the entire series and would receive pre and post videoconferencing support.

Programs run on the same day and at the same time each month. Each program is 1.5 hours in length. A UN presenter would discuss the chosen topic for approximately 20 minutes. The heart and soul of the program will be student interaction. On occasion, it will be the students doing the presenting and the UN "guest" doing the reacting.

Each school site will select two students to be leaders at their school. They will take on a variety of responsibilities over the four months.
