Students gathered again at Chestnut Hill College to celebrate the creation of the United Nations on October 24.

United Nations Day 2003
Making a Pledge for the Future
Education for All

Where: Chestnut Hill College,
Philadelphia, PA

Time: 9:30 AM to 2:15 PM

Director, Voices of Youth/UNICEF

Background: : Secondary school students from the Greater Philadelphia area this year have choices to meet at either Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia or the Scottish Rites Auditorium in Collingswood, NJ to learn more about Education for All and the Millennium Development Goals. They will be encouraged to join with their peers from around the world to help each other reach the human development goals set for 2015. Moving from "words to deeds", students will work from pre-selected focus areas prior to and during the program to develop actions plans with a local, state, national or global perspective.

Topic: Student will work from the topics below during the breakout sessions.

1) Literacy4) Universal Primary Education7) Poverty and Hunger
2) Human Rights Education5) HIV/AIDS8) Discrimination in Education
3) Adult Education6) Gender Disparity9) The Role of the Media

Also: Included for selected students from each school, at no additional cost, is participation in the United Nations Student Conference on Human Rights. This conference will take place on Friday, December 5, 2003 via an all day, live, interactive, international videoconference linked with students around the world involved in similar pursuits. Local locations include Chestnut Hill College and the Camden County ETTC in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Students will present their work to the UN and each other and will also develop their own Youth Plan of Action for a Better World that will be presented officially to the United Nations at the end of the day. The December 5th program will be a live webcast.
