Living in a Changed World

A monthly international, interactive videoconference series.
Done in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Public Information.

Conceptualized and organized primarily by GEM, this program developed out of the tragic events of September 11th.  It is a four part monthly series to help young people assess the impact of those events on their lives and to allow them to interact across cultures with their peers to better understand what the future will hold for them.

This program emphasizes human rights and democratic values in an international setting and the importance of multi-lateral cooperation in the decision making process.  Schools in several countries will interact with schools in the US on how their world has been affected by the events of September 11th in the areas of human rights, human security and economics.  Working each month with a UN official, the students will also look at the role of the United Nations in counteracting terrorism in the 21st Century.

Teachers should look for this in the form of a teaching kit for the 2002-2003 school year.

The kit will include the videotape of each program along with lesson plans. It is expected that this program will also be continued with new, interactive videoconferencing sessions next fall.
