From Words to Deeds…

Questions and Answers…

(1) Why is this program being offered?

The United Nations has designated 2001-2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Worlds Children. Students can more readily see a culture of violence than a culture of peace. We need to change that. We need to show them that they can help.

(2) What preparation is needed for this program?

Just inform your students that the United Nations & GEM would like to work with them and show them what they can do now to help make our world a better place. GEM staff will interact with your students to help them develop a project/program of action specific to their situation. Background materials will be forwarded to you before the program.

(3) How will this help my students understand global responsibility on the local level?

It will show them that they do not have to wait until they are an adult to make a difference. Their action plan will be collected and recognized at the United Nations enabling them to see that adults are listening and recognizing them for their achievements.

(4) Are classroom materials available to help support teachers in this project?

Yes. Once you register, you will receive classroom materials.

(5) How does it work?

Place a video conference call to GEM at a prearranged time for a 45 minute interactive program to move from "Words to Deeds."

(6) My students get all of this for $40?

Yes. Including a free trip to NY and the UN from Chestnut Hill College for 2 students and one teacher. Otherwise, you provide transport to the UN and everything, including lunch in the Delegates Dining Room, is provided for free at the December program.
