When the United Nations was formed in 1945 it reaffirmed the importance of human rights as being central to the establishment of world peace. It was through the UN and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights that the basic rights for all human beings was given formal, universal recognition.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was followed by two more international documents, The International covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Together with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights they collectively constitute The International Bill of Human Rights and this went into force in 1976. They have directly inspired many positive changes on self determination, prevention of discrimination, slavery, servitude, economic, social, cultural and political rights as well as crimes against humanity.
The CyberschoolBus wants to collect inspiring stories of classes or schools defending and promoting human rights in their own communities. These stories will become part of a global atlas of student actions compiled and published on the World Wide Web by the United Nations. For more information call Global Education Motivators at (215) 248-1150 or check out the CyberSchoolBus website.
