About Juan Carlos Brandt:
Mr. Juan Carlos Brandt is currently the Chief of Advocacy and Special Events in the United Nations’ Department of Public Information. In this role, he is responsible for the work of the Holocaust Programme, the Messengers of Peace and Goodwill Ambassadors Programmes, the UN Works campaign, and the Reham Al-Farra Journalists’ Fellowship Programme. Prior to these responsibilities, Mr. Brandt was the Chief of the Non-Governmental Organizations’ (NGOs) where he managed relationships between more than 1,600 representatives of Civil Society and the Department of Public information. Prior to this, Mr. Brandt was the Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Australia and the South Pacific. Mr. Brandt was based in Sydney, and was responsible for New Zealand, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. Mr. Brandt joined the United Nations in 1984 as Information Officer in the United Nations Information Centre in Washington, D.C. where he worked as a Spokesman for former Secretaries General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, and Kofi Annan. Mr. Brandt is a national of Venezuela and graduated from the Catholic University in Caracas, where he earned a degree in Mass Communications and Journalism.
